Recent Blog Post: Term 1 Review
This year has been a year of big changes in the women's team. We have a new Spanish coach called Miguel Angel Cuesta, who has coached several teams in Spain in EBA league and has also been assistant coach in LEB oro, and in the last few weeks the team has a new Portuguese assistant-coach called Diogo Cunha. In addition, this year half of the team is made up by freshers. For these reasons, even though our results from the first term haven't been good enough, we have confidence and believe that the team can do a really good job in the second term. We feel that since our first match against Birmingham until our last match against Worcester, the team has improved remarkably. We can see how all of us have finally understood the defence concepts that Miguel was trying to teach us like full denial, tandem, help... and we have also made huge improvements in closing the rebound, as now it's really difficult to take any rebound for our opponents if either Greta, Lizzie or Sika are on the court. However, we still have to work further in offence as our scores have been pretty low throughout this first term. We are looking forward to playing again against Nottingham Trent, Cambridge or Oxford Brookes as we believe we can surprise them and we will really enjoy these matches as little by little we are learning to play as a team, and every day that passes we enjoy playing with each other a bit more. We also can't wait to play our first Cup game against Salford. Another change introduced this year are the fitness sessions on Friday evenings run by Shannon (one of our team players). They have helped our team gain more resistance and they have also been a good way to know each other better and to increase the feeling of a team. We hope that in this coming year we will continue working with the same positive dynamic and that the results we have been working for start to come.
